The Crop-Side Story
Crop-Side opened for business in 2009, but the foundation for the business really began some 30 years prior to that as Founder, Mark Davis, began his journey of studying the markets to maximize his farming profitability. Over those three decades Mark built an expertise and unique method for interpreting market signals and movements which led to a more consistent higher profitability result for Mark’s farming operation. Mark was just doing what every farmer strives to do: make as much in the grain cash market as possible. It wasn’t until his accountant pointed out to him that Mark had something unique going on because Mark’s approach was consistently out performing what the accountant saw occurring for most other farmers. The accountant encouraged Mark to consider going into business to help others benefit from the expertise and methods Mark had developed.
Mark is a man of faith, so he felt led to pray about the idea of starting a business to help farmers with optimizing the timing for selling their grain in the cash markets. Mark’s quest led him to decide to establish a business, but it also led Mark to determine that he would build the new business on a faith based foundation. Mark committed to establishing two key core values that he wanted to build his business around:

- Crop-Side is first and foremost here to serve the needs of others. The core value of serving the needs of others first was based in scriptures such as Philippians 2:3-4 and Romans 12:7.
- Crop-Side is here to be a good counselor to those who need help with marketing their cash grain transaction timings more profitably. The core value of providing sound counsel was based in scriptures such as Proverbs 11:14 and Proverbs 15:22.
