Our 7 Step Philosophy
1. Know your cost of production. Not just a guess, but expenses broken down into categories on a budget sheet. In addition the farmer should know their average ten year yield to define estimated bushels.
2. Know how profitable you are an acre at current price levels. This calculation is determined by your cost of production and estimated yield (step 1).
3. Determine your desired goal for the next year. What income do I want to make over my cost of production? What am I content with to be happy?
4. Sell based on profit/acre and desired goals, not just price. Sell in small increments to get better average price. Don’t sell all at once and don’t worry about what other farmers are doing; their business is different than yours.
5. Know what the market is doing at all times. Be as up to date as possible with news, prices, and so on. With the market volatility today, you don't want to miss out on any opportunities.
6. Sell the grain when you know you need to (pull the trigger). Selling these areas will keep your emotions under control.
7. Document your sales continuously. This allows you to know where your business stands at all times.
Our Purpose
Crop-Side Marketing has one simple idea: Profitability. However, within this simple idea there are many complex variables. As we moved into the 21st century, farming has become more global and outspread. There are new emerging markets of buyers and sellers. This in turn causes the market to become more volatile and exuberant. Many variables now come into play when farming. New rise in costs, volatile price fluctuations, and many other factors make it hard for farmers to know where they stand profitability wise. Thus, this is where we come into play. It is our purpose and goal to help farmers understand and reach profitable levels of farming.
